If you’ve ever wondered what it is, exactly, they do in the shadows, the answer appears to be: grow adaptogenic mushrooms. Taika Waititi, acclaimed writer, director, and actor, has been announced as the first-ever Chief Creative Officer for the ready-to-drink adaptogenic coffee brand Taika.

Started back in 2020 by Kal Freese, a former multi-time World Barista Championship competitor and co-founder of Sudden Coffee, Taika combines ready-to-drink specialty coffee with a host of adaptogens like cordyceps, lion’s mane, ashwagandha, and theanine that are meant to provide a boost of energy while also increasing clarity and focus. And now they are bringing on board Waititi: actor, producer, director of the best Thor movie, Hunt For The Wilderpeople, Jojo Rabbit, and an impressive eight upcoming productions, including Untitled Taika Waititi Star Wars Project (2026).

It’s a match made in Finnish Word That’s Also The Name of an Award-Winning Multi-Hyphenate Heaven. As the new Chief Creative Officer, Waititi will “leverage his wit, humor, and relentless creative vision to advocate for the brand and collaborate on creative messaging to reach new audiences.” And his first act as CCO, Waititi created a 90-second video announcing his involvement with the brand and its “creativity fuel.”

This new addition to the team could be just the beginning of a wave of serendipitous new hires for Taika. Just spitballing here, but what about former California governor and portrayer of Mr. Freeze in 1997’s Batman & Robin, Arnold Schwarzenegger? He’s literally a Cal Freeze. Still on the nose, but in a like, you have to be in the know sort of way.
